I have always been attracted to the process of decay and the recycling of materials in the natural world and the duality of the randomness/order that rules it. Much of my art is an attempt to capture the beauty that is part of this process. Found objects, trash, cast offs or common things from everyday life can be seen in a different way when presented in a new context. By using techniques such as isolation, juxtaposition, or an unusual perspective, the familiar can become an object of contemplation, from which the viewer may draw some new meaning or understanding.

Born in the Los Angeles area, and raised in a large creative family, Chris Mathis has pursued a lifelong interest in the arts, expressed through many mediums, including assemblage, painting, music and photography. Self taught by studying the works of others, reading, watching and practice, Chris’ work has won awards, been published, commissioned and collected. Chris often collaborates with other Los Angeles area artists.
