My artwork is a personal reaction to and interpretation of the people, places and events that have shaped my life. Recently, I've been reliving and "taking stock" of memories from my childhood and adolescence in a series of paintings based on old family snapshots from the 60's and 70's, which I've titled "Portraits from a Misspent Youth". All the paintings in this series are done in the same square format as the old "Instamatic" point-and-shoot cameras of the 1960's, which I find very evocative of that era.

David Grigsby spent his childhood in Southern California during the fabled "Golden Age" of the '50's and '60's, when real estate was cheap, jobs were plentiful, and the Beach Boys extolled the virtues of sun and surf. An early interest and aptitude in drawing led him to study Art at Cal State University, Long Beach, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Having recently retired from a 30 year career in product design and marketing, the artist is now devoting full time to his lifelong interest in drawing and painting. Grigsby has been active in local group shows and juried exhibitions for a number of years. His work was showcased earlier this year in a group show at Zephyr Cafe, and most recently featured at the Pasadena "ARTWalk" event, where he was awarded First Place in the painting competition. Grigsby's work is owned by a number of local and international collectors.
