Biographical Information:
Originally from upstate New York, Elizabeth B. Tucker moved to Southern California in her early 20’s. While she had always worked with her hands in the needle arts, it was her husband who encouraged her to begin drawing and painting when he gave her an easel as a gift.

Seeking teachers who would teach her in the classical tradition Elizabeth studied at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art (LAAFA) and Art Center College of Design and has a Master of Studio Art from the Florence Academy of Art, Florence Italy. Elizabeth is a Certified Instructor in the Michael Wilcox School of Colour and teaches fundamentals of classical painting and drawing, color theory, basic composition and design at Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre, CA and privately in her studio.

Often working with a limited palate of colors Elizabeth is interested primarily in how light moves and wraps around objects. Her collectors describe her work as, “soothing and calms the soul”. And “…with the use of warm colors and subtle lighting Lizz has a penchant for transforming common subjects into uncommon topics of conversation.”

Elizabeth is a juried member of Pasadena Society of Artists, Women Painters West and is president emeritus of both Women Painters West and Angeles Crest Art Guild. She has won several awards for her work.

Artist Statement:
Philosophy
While in Yosemite one year, a teacher asked us what we wanted to capture in the images we were creating. There were various answers, but for me a work should capture the essence of what is before our eyes. My belief in this has not wavered over time. I view my job as an artist to capture more of what is NOT said, than what is said. What is the true nature of the individual or object? Is it his or her impishness, compassion, sense of humor, grace, haughtiness, innocence? If it is an object, what is the story that object tells? Even a brass pot usually has had something cooked in it. How was the object handled? Roughly, carefully?

A Little Bit of Background
Originally from upstate New York, I moved to Southern California in my early 20’s. While I've always worked with my hands in the needle arts, it was my husband who encouraged me to begin drawing and painting when he gave me an easel as a gift. Knowing I wanted to pursue a classical tradition I sought out teachers who would help me develop my skills in still life and portrait work. I am a strong believer in consistently working on my craft. Strong fundamentals of painting and drawing and improving those skills is a never ending pursuit. Currently I am in the Masters of Studio Art program at the Florence Academy and will finish my masters in August of 2024.

I recently received my Masters Art in Studio Art from the Florence Academy of Art. Additionally, I am a juried member of Women Painters West and president emeritus, and Pasadena Society of Artists. I am a certified instructor in the Michael Wilcox School of Colour specializing in teaching how color mixing works. I teach workshops and have online classes that focus on the wonderful traits of color mixing. I'm honored that I've won several awards for my paintings, and additionally, and my work has appeared in over 75 TV shows and television commercials. Currently, I teach painting and drawing workshops and classes online via Udemy, by Zoom, and in person, for small groups and private lessons as well as an instructor of painting and drawing at the Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre, CA.
