Biographical Information:
Since her childhood in Wisconsin, Bonnie Lambert has been mesmerized by spectacular sunsets, the shock of storm skies, long late-afternoon shadows, fog blurring the world and all the dramatic push-pull between nature and the hand-of-man. These early impressions and experiences continue to inspire her today. They spark her imagination and shape her art.
Adding to this inspirational mix are a 17-year career as a professional stage actress, two years of classes at The Art Center Collage of Design and, most importantly, meeting museum-collected Chicana artist Margaret Garcia, who became Bonnie’s mentor and folded her into the vibrant Los Angeles Chicano artist community.
Bonnie Lambert’s unique artistic language is expressed through intense color, deep contrast and broad brushstrokes. She paints in many layers, always trying to invent new colors. Bonnie asks herself, “Am I getting the same emotional response from my painting as I did from the scene I photographed?” If the answer is, “Yes!”, the painting is done.
Lambert challenges herself to observe her surroundings with fresh eyes and, through her paintings, express wonder in the constantly changing world—rich in vibrant color, life and beauty.
Bonnie Lambert has taught oil painting classes at Plaza de la Raza in Northeast Los Angeles and at LA Plaza de Artes y Cultura in downtown LA. Since her first solo show in 2011, Lambert’s paintings have been collected and commissioned, and she has participated in more than 85 shows and exhibitions, including solo exhibits at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Mesa, Arizona, The City of Burbank Creative Arts Center Gallery, and ChimMaya Art Gallery. Group exhibitions include The Santa Paula Art Museum, Artopia Gallery, The Lines Gallery in Bergamot Station, the TAG Gallery, 1315 Studios in Chelsea, NYC, Sacramento Fine Arts Center, and many more.
