Biographical Information:
At 74, I’ve been lucky enough to have had very few straight, non-creative, jobs in my life. I’ve been a set designer (theater), art director and challenge producer/writer (TV), sculptor, painter, even sold a few short stories and published three novels. My current medium, for the past five years, has been printmaking (etchings & block prints), which was initially meant to go with short stories—but quickly took on a life of its own. Though it’s getting harder to load in, my prints do fairly well at art festivals and Con type conventions. In the meantime, I manage the artist lofts building where I live and have an etching studio.
Artist Statement:
It’s simple … It has mostly been about telling stories, and some commentary, regarding the world around me—images touched by my changing perspectives over time.
Solo Exhibitions:
I never pursued the gallery route, and I only took up etchings at 68—too late to change my focus. Instead, I opted to spread the art out more via higher end juried art festivals (Beverly Hills, Sausalito, Santa Barbara, etc.). In addition, since I consider my work that of a storyteller, I do a few conventions like Comic Con.
Awards/Honors:
J. Windle Johnson Stage Designer’s Award (Biggy back then!), and a Drama Critics Award for set design. I’ve also got a small box of ribbons ranging from Best in Show to Honorable Mention from the art festivals. One or two from some straight competition group gallery shows. I’m pretty sure I even have one from a PSA Group show back around 2015-ish (painting).
