Biographical Information:
I have always been drawn to handmade objects and was raised in a household of creatives. After college I chose to pursue a dental career with the notion I was embracing a practical yet artistic endeavor. Over the years, I found work/life balance by crafting objects fashioned to enhance our surroundings.
An ETSY handmade jewelry shop was launched in an effort to fill the void felt when my son left home for college. My husband and I then decided to cultivate a drought tolerant landscape for our home. Weekly pilgrimages to the Huntington gardens are an inspiration and my phone camera is routinely used to catalogue a wish list for reference. I appreciate digital technology free from cumbersome traditional camera equipment making the process seamless. I enjoy the instant gratification and time spent refining the images for daily Instagram posts shared with other floral enthusiasts.
Artist Statement:
The creative zone is a gift of relaxation as it leaves me oblivious to the passage of time. Over years past I have been compelled to take iPhone images of flowers on botanical walks that have been a welcome balm to de-stress and experience the awe and joy of nature. The ease and convenience of digital media makes reviewing and optimizing the photos an inviting and addictive challenge. Often times surprising details emerge in manipulating the photos that could not be appreciated with the initial brief encounter and would otherwise be missed.
My photos are mostly snapped quickly in brilliant California sunlight. The find the resiliency of perennials are particularly uplifting but when I frame the flowers I am acutely aware of their ephemeral nature and my desire to celebrate that moment of capture. I hope to do justice in memorializing these blooms and cherish their enchanting beauty and brilliance.
